I was in Big Lots yesterday and was surprised to see a huge makeup closeout in the cosmetics section.  I believe the stuff came from Walgreens as the items had the same yellow “clearance” stickers that Walgreens uses.

I was too busy digging through the bins to take a picture but I might go back later today as there is a 20% coupon from Big Lots that’s been posted up.  Click here and print it out!

The closeout items were a TON of lipsticks, pressed powder, liquid foundation,  nail polish and lip glosses.  They were mostly from L’oreal, Maybelline and Revlon.  There was so much stuff that even my mom was diving through the bins as it was all…$1 EACH!!!

I didn’t really get anything for myself as I was too busy helping my mom get stuff for herself.  She bought 2 pressed Mineral powder compacts from Maybelline, 6 lipsticks from L’oreal and 3 nail polishes.

Was kinda weird how it was all $1 and the stuff was in excellent condition.  We are going to another Big Lots to see if they have the same closeout.  Wish us luck!

So my adventure with Marcelle products continues.  This round, I’m testing  their cleansing milk:
(From Marcelle Website)

“Gentle, deep-cleanser infused with peach and cucumber extracts.

Made from mild yet effective ingredients, such as peach extract that combines moisturizing, softening and exfoliating properties as well as cucumber extract to soothe skin and give it that extra fresh feel. Your skin will feel clean, soft and perfectly toned.Hypo-allergenic and perfume free.
Ideal for normal to dry skin.”

Hello face!

IMG_3393

Same tools were used as last time:

Avon Glimmerstick Waterproof Eyeliner
Sana Moroha Eyeliner
Almay Smart Shade Foundation in Light and Light/Medium
Urban Decay Get Baked palette
Lancome Powder Blush Aplum
Loreal Hip lip gloss in Euphora

IMG_3402

The bottle comes without any control cap.  The texture is quite thick in the bottle so holding the bottle upside down will not pour the cream out.  You gotta squeeze the bottle a little but be careful, or you will squeeze out too much.

IMG_3394

*blab!*

Out of the bottle, it feels very light.  Not greasy creamy.

IMG_3395

Rubrubrub!  Face melted~

As suggested on the bottle label, wiped with a cotton pad…

IMG_3396

Eeeek

IMG_3397

Hmmm looks clean?  Let’s see… Using Lush’s Breath of Fresh Air toner:

IMG_3398

Whut~  It looks clean but in fact much of the foundation is still there.  It did a pretty good job melting everything else though.

Let’s clean it more with Marcelle’s Essentials Gentle Makeup Remover (review here):

IMG_3399

More came out.  After a thorough wiping, test with Lush toner again:

IMG_3400

Ah!  Much better!

After that, I tried it on my face.  I don’t use heavy makeup.  Just a thin layer of Almay foundation to even out my tone, little bit of eyebrow pencil to fill in, little eyeshadow, line my eyes a little,

little blushes, and lip gloss.  After I got home at the end of the day, most of the makeup are gone anyway lol.  I rubbed my face with the milk, and then rinsed with water:

IMG_3401

Hey looks pretty clean and when I felt my face,  it felt soft and not drying.   Then I waited a bit before I put on my moisturizer.  My nose started to flake a bit but overall my face didn’t dry out and start cracking.

To sum up:

Pros:
- Hypo-allergenic and perfume free
- Light, not greasy
- Cleans simple makeup

Cons:
- Doesn’t do a good job cleaning heavier makeup
- I was hoping it could be more moisturizing
- Might squeeze out too much accidentally

I think I will use it for normal daily cleanser to clean dirt and simple makeup; for heavier makeup I might look for something else.

A Big Thank-You to Isabel from Marcelle for this lovely package!  <333

Marcelle Essentials Make-Up Remover Cleansing Milk
Marcelle Essentials Gentle Make-Up Remover for Sensitive Eyes
Marcelle New-Age Anti-Wrinkle+Firming Soothing Hydrating Tonifying Lotion
Marcelle New-Age Anti-Wrinkle+Firming Comforting Foaming Cleanser

I really can’t wait to try out the make-up remover.  I told Isabel I’m on a mission to find a good (if not the best) make up remover.  So far I’ve tried B&C AHA Cleansing Oil, Kose Whitist Cleansing Oil (seriously useless), Sephora Face Eye Make Up Remover (so useless and disappointed I didn’t bother writing a review), and recently Clinque’s Take the Day Off Cleansing Milk (Am I doing it wrong?  Why is it NOT taking ANYTHING off?!).  Imagine how excited I am, to have the chance to try out the products of Marcelle, a Canadian brand.

Ohohoh~  make up remover~

Taken from Marcelle Website:

“Gentle Make-up Remover for Sensitive Eyes

A gentle and mild formula that stops at nothing to remove mascara.
There’s no need to rub, this highly efficient make-up remover easily dissolves eye shadow, mascara and lipstick, even long-lasting or waterproof formulas! When combined, its half-oil and half-water emulsion instantly and removes any traces of colour pigments without irritating the eyes.Infused with green tea extract, known for its antioxidant properties, it soothes the delicate eye area while cucumber extract provides a breeze of cooling freshness to help reduce under eye puffiness and dark circles. Ideal for sensitive eyes or contact lens wearers.

Hypo-allergenic and perfume free.
Ideal for all skin types.”

Let’s see how it works!

IMG_3385

Hello face:

Avon Glimmerstick Waterproof Eyeliner
Sana Moroha Eyeliner
Almay Smart Shade Foundation in Light and Light/Medium
Urban Decay Get Baked palette
Lancome Powder Blush Aplum
Loreal Hip lip gloss in Euphora

It is a 2-part half-oil and half-water emulsion, so shake well before use.  I took a sniff.  Fragrance free!

IMG_3386

One quick wipe.  Most of the face is gone already!

IMG_3387

IMG_3388

One more wipe, everything’s gone.  I then test the result with Lush’s Breath of Fresh Air toner:

IMG_3389

Oooh clean!

How about mascara and eyeliner?

IMG_3391

Avon Wash Off Waterproof mascara in brown
Bourjois Liner Clubbing (Ultra Resistance!) in Black Fever
Eyeko mascara
Smashbox Bionic mascara in Jet Black
Covergirl LashBlast in Very Black

IMG_3392

In this case, one simple wipe is not enough.  But with a few wipes (note: it’s “wipes”, not “rubs”!), everything’s gone again.  Notice the sheen on my skin?  Because it’s an oil-water emulsion, it leaves a nice shiny sheen initially.  After the tests, it doesn’t make the back of my hand feel dry.  In fact, I tried it on my face to take off my makeup.  Again, it took everything off quickly, and it leaves my face feeling clean and refreshed.  I like~  I have sensitive skin and it doesn’t irritate my skin at all.  And what really makes me even happier?  It doesn’t sting my eyes!  *applause!*

Now I need some time to see if it helps with my puffy eyes and dark circles!

To sum up:

Pros:
- Take off makeup quickly and effectively
- Oil-Water emulsion lightly moisturize the eye area without the greasy feeling
- Just put on cotton pad and wipe, not rub: simple!
-
Hypo-allergenic
- fragrance free

Con:
- I guess the only con is that you need to remember to shake it before use :P

Overall, I’m very pleased with it and gives it a 2 thumbs up.  Highly recommended!

Long post alert!  If you are tired and sleepy, don’t read lol!  If you can’t sleep, then you’re very welcome… XD

————————————————————————————

Have I ever mentioned I never have any luck in contest and lucky draw?  I seldom win anything.  Wait.  No.  I hardly won anything.  I remember when I was a kid, one Christmas we were told each of us to bring in a present so we could have present exchange in class.  We drew a number from a hat to get the present.  I had the luck to draw back my own present.  The one I brought in.  Oh man I laughed so hard.  The whole class laughed.  My teacher laughed too.  Good grief.

But!  I feel the wind is changing!  I won the Marcelle 1st Wrinkles Eye Contour Cream, thanks to Stephanie! :)

15ml of goodness in a pump bottle.  So you don’t have to dip your finger in the pot every time you use it.

From Marcelle website:

Because it’s never too soon to take care of your skin

Prevent the first signs of aging with this ultra-light and non-sticky cream that penetrates skin instantly; allowing you to apply your make-up immediately.

Enriched with high performance ingredients, this unique care will increase micro-circulation, reducing puffiness and dark circles. It deeply moisturizes and protects the delicate eye contour area.

Hypo-allergenic and perfume free
Ophthalmologist tested.”

I’ve been using it for the last few days.  I find it quite light and being absorbed very quickly like they promised.  It’s a plus to me because rich greasy eye cream feels sticky and heavy around your eyes and that doesn’t feel nice.  Recently I’ve been babysitting my sister’s dogs and they woke me up every morning at 5am.  You can imagine my dark eye circles.  Hopefully it will help me to reduce dark circles as it promised as well?  I will report back perhaps after a week or two.

Thank you again Stephanie!

And did I tell you I love Winners?  I’ve always love that place.  None of my friends like to shop there because they think the store is always messy.  Well I agree.  People who shop there like to misplace things everywhere, and the store associates are having a hard time catching up, putting things back in the right place.  But I still love to shop there.  It gives me the feeling of treasure hunting.

Recently, Winners went through some changes and makeover.  The stores are now brighter and more organized; and what makes me really happy is that they introduced popular brand and cosmetics to the stores.  I am a big fan of Philosophy’s shower gel, so I am very happy to see they are selling them there.  Not a lot of selection, but they sell my two favorite scent: Belgium Waffle and Fresh Cream.  Yum!  And then I thought, please please please, please sell Hope in a Jar one day, please!

And?  My wish is granted!!!  Plus more!

IMG_3363

Inner Grace set with body lotion and hand cream: $16.99 CDN

Lemonade set with lip gloss and hand cream: $19.99 CDN

Hope in a Jar $24.99 CDN

Lemonade is a bit too sour for me.  I hope it’s sweeter to balance out the sourness.  But their hand cream is really good.  It can last almost the whole day.  My hands feel silky after washing, even in this cold dry weather.  Thumbs up!  I find the gloss a bit sticky, as I prefer non-sticky type; but that makes the gloss lasts longer.  Inner Grace smells pretty nice.  It’s light and not overpowering.  At first I didn’t buy the set because I mistook it as Amazing Grace.  I tried Amazing Grace and, wow, it brought back so much memory.  Not in a pleasant way, because it reminds me of Elmer’s glue D:

IMG_3367

Fresh Cream ($14.99 CDN then discounted to $11), Lemonade ($14.99), and my favorite, Belgian Waffles ($14.99 discounted to $12).

I use their shower gel as shampoo regularly and it makes my hair smooth and soft without the need of conditioner.

IMG_3368

Philosophy Man For All Seasons Set ($29.99 CDN):  Spring (Peony), Summer (Papaya), Fall (Pear), Winter (Snow).  I more foody than fruity, and kinda surprised to see Summer is not mint icecream scent and Fall is not some pumpkin scent.  But still… I couldn’t resist so I picked it up :P

IMG_3364

Borba Age Defying Advanced Recovery Creme (suggested price $60, now for $14.99 CDN).  Borba was on sale at Haute Look (or Beyond The Rack?) but I didn’t pick up anything because of the heavy shipping cost.  I’m even more glad I didn’t buy it because now I can get Borba at Winners, no shipping cost!  I tried it for 2 nights and so far it makes my skin feel very smooth and soft in the morning.  If it keeps up the good work without breaking me out, I might try the concentrate and day creme.

IMG_3365

Korres Fig Set ($16.99 CDN), with shower gel, body butter, and scrub.  I’ve always wanted to try Korres product and again either Haute Look or Beyong The Rack had a Korres sale not too long ago.  But again because of the shipping cost I didn’t buy anything.  It’s a great starter set for me.  Winners also sell individual showergel at $5.99 each.  I saw Citrus, Cedar, and Fig.

IMG_3376

Be Fine 3-piece starter kit: Brown Sugar, almond, and Oat exfoliating cleanser, Ginger and willowbark firming toner, and Cocoa, millet, and rice bran night cream ($3.99CDN).  I haven’t heard nor tried this brand before, but at $3.99 I just couldn’t resist.  And how can I not buy it with a picture of chocolate on it?!  But it doesn’t really smell like chocolate XD  How disappointed!  I will try it tonight and see it goes.

IMG_3380

Urban Decay Get Baked ($7.99 Cdn).  It comes with a small bottle of Sin primer.  Both eyeshadow colors and the liner pencil are very nice and pigmented, and they last the whole day without creasing (I didn’t use any primer).  Unlike my Avon Waterproof Glimmerstick, the 24/7 Glide-On doesn’t melt and move under my eyes.

That concludes my recent Winners haul!

——————————————————————————————–

Shoppers Drug Mart is perhaps my second favorite store.  I lovelovelove their Optimum point system!  Yes, SDM is normally more expensive than other stores, but they frequently have 20x points event, so you just need to do it right:  Wait for things to go on sale and wait for bonus points event, then redeem your points during the special redemption days.

Last week, they had a redemption promotion again.  I have enough points to redeem $200 worth of free stuff.  I was hoping to get a netbook for my parents but all the stores I called were out of stock :(   So I got these instead…

IMG_3362

Lancome Bi-Facil eye makeup remover (with that I got the free Lancome gift as well!)

Almay Smart Shade foundation (with bonus concealer) in Light and Light/Medium (I mixed the two to get my shade)

Almay Pure Blend tinted moisturizer

Clinque Take The Day Off Cleansing Milk (so far, quite disappointed with the performance!)

Rimmel eye makeup remover (cheap but very effective)

Benefit Celebutante (I’ve been waiting for the redemption promotion to get this set!)

Plus what’s not in the photo:

3 x Tylenol Cold day, night, and cough (my parents got this lingering cold and cough D:)

2 cases of Ensure drink (meal replacement/supplement.  In case I don’t have time to eat properly)

All that, I just paid $30 for taxes.  Because I’m an Optimum Plus member, after they took of 75,000 points, they immediately put 10,000 back to my account.  With my remaining balance, I could have redeem another $100 worth of stuff.  But I held off, and continue to build my points and wait for the next event.

And today, a mini haul lol

IMG_3378

My father saw an ad on the community paper.  A tiny place selling all kinds of “one of a kind” things.  In this case, “OOAK” doesn’t mean it’s hand made.  It’s more like “sample” or “defective” lol.  I didn’t think I’d find anything there, but my dad was curious so we went.  At the end we spent an hour in there looking through things because, although it is a small place, it still has many things to look at.  At the tiny corner, I spotted a pair of Emu slippers, for $15!  There’s only one pair so I grabbed them quickly :D   And picked up a couple of hair accessories for $1 each.  My mom bought 2 pair of sunglasses (very fake D&G lol) and some kids clothes for my sister’s babies.  I found some pretty nice Lord & Taylor cashmere vests at $15 but didn’t get any.

In Chinese, the slang term for “shopping” is “??” (“Song Ping”, literally means “Mad Fighting”) and “??” (“Xue Pin”, bloody fight!).  I think those terms really capture the spirit of real shopping lol

Well today I got quite a few things.  Today is the last day of Old Navy’s 50% off Outerwear Event, PLUS 30% Family and Friend Event.  I always want to get a puffy coat to replace my warm Point-Zero down jacket.  That down jacket is nice looking and warm; however, the feathers keep sticking and coming out.  So every time I wear it and take it off indoors, I have a full body of feather on me, as if I ate a live pigeon, or sat on a bird.  Sadness.

So I got this:

oldnavy1

$99CDN (US site is cheaper!  Humph) off 50% then off 30%.  Not too bad?  I saw the brown one online first and wanted it, but when I see the shiny black I decided to get it instead.

And this, in green:

oldnavy2

I got this as well, but am thinking of returning it.  The color is classic camel, very safe, but a bit boring…

oldnavy3

By the way, if you don’t know already, oldnavyweekly.com offers all kinds of discount coupons.  You have to play to get the coupons.  A fun way to save!

Then this morning I got an email from Aldo.  They had a Thursday’s Thrill sale:

aldo

(oops bad cropping)

The style is Farisola (they have to invent all these names for shoes!).  Dropped from $190 to $59.98.  I’ve been lusting for a pair of chestnut color boots, so these seem perfect!

Bought some toys stuff and fruits clay cane nail decor.  Will post them soon!

I found out yesterday that CVS is going to be opening a store in my area!  THANK GOD!  Now I get to see what all the fuss is about in the beauty section!!!!

When it opens, I am so taking pictures!

Hey all!  Just a quick reminder.  Or you haven’t heard about it, do you know:

“If the scanned price of a qualifying item at the checkout of a participating store is higher than the price displayed in the store – or advertised by the store – the lower price will be honoured. If the correct price of the product is $10 or less, the retailer will give the product to the customer for free. If the correct price of the product is higher than $10, the retailer will give the customer $10 off the corrected price. If multiple units of a given product are involved in a scanning error, the policy will be applied to the first unit only.”
