A few weeks ago, there was a coupon in the Sunday flyer for $2 off any Neutrogena mineral sheers product. Funny, that same week, Walgreens had a sale on all Neutrogena makeup for 40% off. My mom was looking for new powder foundation. When we went to Walgreens to get her vacation pictures developed, we checked out the makeup aisle.
Since I had the coupon and the makeup was on sale, we decided to test out this particular product. It came out to around $5.50 after the coupon and discount! Once we got home, we discovered that this was a perfect match on my mom. I later tested it on my face and it matched my skintone too. I was able to score another coupon and a few days later, bought my own compact.
Tan was the darkest shade they had out of all the Mineral Sheers powder! Lucky for us it’s an exact match! Years ago when I was in high school (hello late 80s!), I could never find makeup to match my skintone. Anything that was “dark enough” always had too much of a pink undertone and looked like crap on me! It’s the reason I gave up wearing foundation for basically,…18 years!!! Yes, you read that right!
The compact is made of plastic and it’s not the easiest to open. What I mean is when you open it, you’re opening the part where the mirror is located. I hate these fliptop type of compacts where it’s an all-in-one to open everything. I seem to have a hard time getting the powder compartment to come down if I don’t have a long enough fingernail to slide into the opening to pull it down.
As you can see, the mirror is under the powder compartment. It also comes with one of those foam sponges but I don’t like using them. I use a powder brush instead and I need to get my mom to start using one too. She always uses the stupid sponge that comes with her makeup!
Overall, the coverage is medium. It’s a little more powdery than I expected, considering that it’s pressed mineral powder. I say this because I compare it to my Pur Minerals 4-in-One foundation powder. I’ll do a review on Pur Minerals later.
I use the Monistat Anti-Chafing gel as my primer when I wear this. I also use my Eco-tools Powder brush to apply the powder. I don’t like too much coverage for now and this goes on pretty well. Coverage lasts about 4 hours for me, I think. I have the tendancy to touch my face too much since I’m not used to wearing anything on my face (aside from brow powder and eyeliner).
Overall, I’m pleased with this product, given the amount paid for it and yeah, would buy it again when I run out.
Product: 4 out of 5
Packaging: 2 out of 5
Quality: 4 out of 5
Overall: 4 out of 5
Price: $10-$13 depending on where you buy at Walmart/Target/Ulta/Walgreens/Riteaid
Other things to know: I like that it’s SPF 20 which is pretty high for foundation powder that I’ve seen so far…drugstore makeup, that is!
