Farewell Body Shop

January 26th, 2009

Yesterday, I had gone to the Oak Court Mall here in Memphis.  I rarely visit this mall as the Wolfchase Mall has more stores and is closer to where I live in Memphis.   The only reason I would go to Oak Court is that they might have a couple of stores that are no longer at Wolfchase.  One of these stores is the Body Shop.

I don’t go to malls that frequent as I didn’t even know that the Body Shop had closed its location at Wolfchase a while back.  I had noticed last year that the Body Shop put out a new mineral foundation line so I decided to check it out in person.  I went to Wolfchase and couldn’t find the store!  My sister told me they closed it a long time ago!

So, I had to look up on the Body Shop website to see what other locations in Memphis that they had.  Oak Court was the only one left.   I headed out there to see the store and came home empty handed as I found the foundation to be too pricey for me.

This time, I decided to check out the store for what sales they had since eveyone is having a sale!  Lo & behold, I walk up to the store and there is a big sign in the window:

“This store is closing on January 24, 2009.  The closest location for you to visit will be in Franklin, TN at,….”.  Franklin is close to Nashville and that’s more than 4 hours by car from Memphis!

THIS SUCKS!  Why is the Body Shop pulling out of Memphis?  It’s not the only store that is doing that.  Cost Plus, otherwise known as World Market, is also pulling out of Memphis.  They are closing all 3 of their stores by mid-April here.  It’s not a beauty related store but it’s a nice store that I love going to, ever since my days of living in San Francisco.  Hell, I used to work at the Bay Street location in the city!

There was another store in Oak Court also closing its doors forever that same day and people were going crazy for the sales.  I didn’t think 40% all books was a good enough sale.  Dude, if you’re closing forever, why stop at 40%?  I would start buying at 75%!

What baffled me was this Body Shop had NO CLOSEOUT or real sale.  There was the usual clearance items but no CLOSING OUR DOORS FOREVER sale.  I wanted to get some stuff but damn, not at full price!  The economy is sour and I’m trying to make my dollar stretch!

Anyhow, it just sucks that stores are pulling out of Memphis.  What next?  Sephora?  God NO!
